The Saribung Pass trek is a challenging trekking trail in the midwestern part of Nepal. The Saribung Pass trekking combines beautiful Himalayan scenery with three mountains above 8000 m: Dhaulagiri 8167 m, Mt. Manaslu 8163 m, and Mt. Annapurna 8091 m; religions; geographic elevation; Tibetan monasteries; beautiful landscape; and crossing the challenging passes. Saribung is situated in an isolated part of the Mustang region of Damodar Himal, close to the border of Tibet. The trail is rugged, cutting high into cliff sides and passing through villages that have changed little over the centuries. It is a challenging and very popular trekking trail off the beaten track.
The Saribung Pass trek route initially follows the Upper Mustang Trek to Lo-Manthang and Lury Gompa before heading off into the wilds of Namta Khola Valley. The Saribung Trek can be done anticlockwise, for which the trek starts from Phu and then ascends to Saribung Pass and enters the Mustang “Hidden Valley” and returns to Jomsom, or clockwise, for which the trek starts from Jomsom and follows the Upper Mustang trail and descends to the Nar-Phu Valley and ends at Besisahar. The Saribung Pass Trek highlights the pass. After the pass, the trail descends on the opposite side in the second part, which requires some attention because of many more crevasses. The Saribung Pass trekking trail passes through the ice and crevasses between the Damodar Kunda region and the Nar-Phu valley.
The Saribung Pass trek offers great scenery, cultures, religion, and geographical variations. The trekking route passes through the different villages, monasteries, cultures, and religions of Tibetan style every day in the Upper Mustang and Nar Phu area. Saribung is located in remote Damodar Himal, close to the border with China (Tibet). The Saribung Pass trek trail continues via Saribung Pass (6020 m), descends to Phu Gai, then the trail reaches the Annapurna Circuit Trek Trail at Koto, then heads to Beshishar & by bus or private vehicle drives back to Kathmandu. The Himalayan Smile Treks can also be combined with the Annapurna Circuit Trek according to your interest.
