About the dress, the men wear thick wool jackets woven by women and felted to make them waterproof. In the summer season, they ascend as high as 5,000 meters with their herds. In winter, when snow falls in the village, they descend to temporary dwellings in the lower valley, Dhaula. The village is a labyrinth of narrow alleyways, the houses so tight that the slates of one roof touch those of the opposite house. The older homes display intricately carved wooden windows for which Gurja Khani craftsmen are renowned.

The most pleasant village on the Gurja Himal trek is Gurja Khani, where you can spend a few days for extra activities. Early morning can be spent hiking to the Gurja Himal viewpoint. The trail continuously climbs gently up to an old apple orchard just a lap of the Gurja Himal. The trail follows through the clusters of rhododendrons before the trail descends to Khegas, a pleasant meadow and shepherds' huts. After lunch, we can hike to the old copper mines, the honey-hunting area, and bird-watching. The Gurja Himal Trek route can view typical local cultural dances performed by mothers' groups or youth clubs. In Gurja Khani, there are several family-run homestays. The owner has good training in hospitality and tourism.

The Gurja Himal Trek can be pretty easily paired with other trek routes to make it longer and, honestly, more satisfying for anyone traveling through western Nepal. People often stitch it together with the Khopra Danda Trek, Mohare Danda Trek, Poon Hill Trek, or even the quieter Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve Trek. These additions bring in mixed scenery, like age-old Magar villages, high-altitude pasturelands, rhododendron woodland, and those amazing views across the Himalayas. When you combine treks, you also get to catch a lot of local life, visit natural hot springs, and walk on paths that feel less crowded while you pass around the mighty Dhaulagiri region. So overall, it becomes more daring, scenic, and culturally immersive than doing just one route.
