Best hiking around Kathmandu Valley, including Nagarkot (2175 m) – Dhulikhel (1550 m) – Namobuddha (1810 m), is one of the most popular and demanding short hiking routes from the perspective of visitors. Most tourists want to enjoy their holiday being close to nature and the lifestyle of the people of that particular destination. Nepal, being one of the best preferred destinations for visitors, has many trekking and hiking trails. Due to the demand and curiosity of lots of visitors who have short holidays, we have managed this hiking program, which is the shortest and near the capital city.
After a short drive of 45 minutes (30 km) from Kathmandu, you will be at Nagarkot hill station (2175 m). You can have an overnight stay program in Nagarkot so that you can fully enjoy the time spent in Nagarkot. Being near the city, it is far from crowds, pollution, and road traffic and is full of natural beauty, mountains, and Himalayan scenery. The main point of attraction in Nagarkot is the terrific views of the Himalayan ranges. You can see the panoramic view of the Himalayas sitting on a chair on the balcony of your room, having a cup of coffee in your hand, which is a breathtaking moment in your life.
After the best view of sunrise in the Himalayan ranges, we start our hiking program. Our trek approximately takes 5-6 hours to reach Dhulikhel (1510 m). The trail continues through the typical villages with fantastic sunsets and sunrise, inspecting large green valleys. Hiking to Dhulikhel is best to observe the high Himalayas, which adds the extra thrill to the trip. The trek to Dhulikhel follows the small walking trail and continues towards Rhonnie Bhanjyang. We can have wonderful views from the ridge of Rhonnie Bhanjyang. We continue further through the rugged trail and continue towards Dhulikhel. We will pass through the village of Kankre and Tanchok and reach Tusal. From Tusal, we will ascend and walk to the town of Opi. We hike further for some time and reach a beautiful hill of Dhulikhel. We will spend our overnight in Dhulikhel admiring the alluring Himalayan views from its ridge.
After breakfast, we start our trek to Namobuddha (1810), which is a famous ancient Buddhist monastery in Nepal that is being surrounded by Tamang settlements. We can see beautiful hillside terraced farms, variation in landscapes, and diversity of people living in harmony throughout the treks. In Namobuddha, there is a special Buddhist legend about King Mahasattva offering his body to a hungry tigress at this very place, which makes Namobuddha a holy site for Buddhist people.
Thus, the Nagarkot-Dhulikhel-Namobuddha trek is a fantastic, enjoyable, and memorable trek in Nepal to explore the natural, cultural, and historical sites with a wonderful trekking experience away from the city. And surely a great experience of trekking around Kathmandu, even if you just have a short holiday for adventure activities during your stay in Nepal.
