The Annapurna North Base Camp trek is a newly explored trekking route in the Annapurna region. It's a short wilderness trekking trip that lets you explore the rural area of Annapurna North, stay at a local home, and observe the culture of the Magar ethnic group at the foot of the Annapurna mountain range. The Annapurna North Base Camp trek features unexplored, hidden trails in this region. The trail is unique and offers wilderness to explore; it offers some of the amazing local villages with diverse culture and friendliest people, scenic landscapes, and breathtaking views of Annapurna, including Annapurna 1, Tilicho, Nilgiri, and Barah Shikhar, etc. The trek commences from Tatopani, which is on the way to the world-famous trek route of the Annapurna Circuit
The Annapurna North Base Camp trek offers 360-degree views of mountains at base camp, leaving trekkers speechless. Similarly, tranquil Narchyang Lake at base camp is a major attraction of this route. The lake usually gets frozen during the winter season. Hot springs, glaciers, waterfalls, and caves also make this route majestic. While camping at Base Camp, an avalanche is triggered by sound: myth and truth. Rhododendron flowers (the national flower of Nepal) are also an added attraction. Suspension bridges, stone steps, and mountain terrain are also parts of this route; Magar culture at lower and upper Narchyang is an enjoyable fragment on this route. On a lucky day, wildlife like Himalayan monal, Himalayan thars, Himalayan gorals, musk deer, snow leopards, blue sheep, bears, and wild dogs could be spotted. By the way, if you are a big fan of grazing the stars, some of the camping sites are some of the best spots in the world to view the stars.
The Annapurna North Base Camp trek was introduced and has been closed for almost a century by the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal, Western Regional Association. This trail is called “The Annapurna North Base Camp Trail (4190 m)." Historically, on June 3rd,1950, French mountaineers Maurice Herzog, his colleague Louis Lachenal, and a Nepali guide Ang Tharke Sherpa reached the top of Annapurna 1( the tenth highest mountain in the world at 8,091 meters) using this trail. This marked the first climbers in modern history to climb a peak over 8000 m. In this context, TAAN WRA explored this route from 29 Nov to 05 Dec 2020 to offer one of the most scenic, untouched, and challenging trekking opportunities in the country to the world.
The Annapurna North Base Camp trek can be done in community homes and homestays currently in Upper Narchyang (Lehgaun), and on another trekking route, you will get experience at a tented camp. The trekking route combines with the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek and the Jomsom Muktinath trek. For the Annapurna North Base Camp trek, the best season is mid-September to mid-December and March, April, and May.
