Trek Overview

Trek Overview

Kanchenjunga Limbu cultural trekking is a newly opened trekking trail in the far east region, where the region is blessed with world third highest mountain, Kanchenjunga. The journey goes to the heart of Limbu settlement, where the visitor gets to explore unspoiled Limbu culture, customs, tradition, language, way of living, festivals, and rituals. Limbu is one of the indigenous groups mostly found in the hilly region of far east Nepal & bordering Sikkim & Darjeeling of India. Kanchenjunga region is the best place for exploration, whereas it’s still the same and unchanged from ancient times. Limbu people speak their own ethnic language, which is a bit similar to Tibetan, and they have famous cultural dances called Dhan nach, Chyabrung nach & Bijuwaa nach, which can be seen during the journey.

Kanchenjunga Limbu cultural trekking starts from Kathmandu, taking a 40-min flight to Biratnagar and again taking a small aircraft flight to Shuketar in the lap of Kanchenjunga. The trekking starts from this place and goes through ancient Limbu villages like Lalikharka 2200m, Kande Bhanjyang 2129m, Phumphe 1858m, Mamankhe 1785m, Khebang 1915m, Tellok 1500m. The journey is not only to explore Limbu village & culture, but it also offers spectacular views of the Himalaya, including some of the world-famous mountains like Kanchenjunga 8586m, Nyukla Lachung 6670m, Kumbhakarna 7711m, Boktha Peak 6670m. The region is enriched with a vast range of flora and fauna, whereas the local spice Cardamom grown here has brought wealth to this region; thus, it is changing life in the rural & remote areas.

Kanchenjunga Limbu cultural trekking offers a brief overview of Limbu culture, customs, traditions, language, and cultural dance, as well as a bird's-eye view of the world-famous mountain and the amazing landscape of eastern Nepal, which is very different from the rest of Nepal. After completing this journey, we learned in depth about Limbu culture, traditions, and, of course, the mesmerizing Kanchenjunga and enchanting rivers, valleys, waterfalls, and Himalayan tropical gorges.
