The Balthali Village tour is a popular tour around the Kathmandu Valley that lies just beyond Panauti Town and Khopasi (40 km southeast of Kathmandu). Situated in one of the richest cultures, nature lovers and bird watchers can spend the day exploring and discovering some exceptional species of wildlife, tradition, and culture untouched by modernity. This “off-beaten track” has endless trials leading to some unknown villages of Tamangs, Newars, and ethnic tribes, thus offering excellent short hikes and mountain biking experiences.
The Balthali Village tour is on the hill surrounded by thick forest with plentiful flora, colorful rhododendron, and sal trees. It offers you to see the view of panoramic Himalayan peaks in the north and green terraced fields. Its surroundings give you ample opportunity and time to explore this quaint natural heaven. Many of the sacred and ancient temples and monasteries, such as Namo Buddha, Indreshwar Mahadev, and Brahmayani Temples, are located in this region and still need to be discovered and unveil their mysterious past. There are several excellent short and long hikes, from a day to 5 days, within Balthali Village.
Why is Namobuddha a sacred Buddhist site?
Namobuddha is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal, and it’s revered across the Buddhist world. So, according to an ancient legend, Prince Mahasattva, who was a previous incarnation of the Buddha, sacrificed his own body to feed a starving tigress and her cubs, which is really an extraordinary act of compassion and selflessness. There’s also this magnificent stupa that marks the holy spot, and it draws thousands of Buddhist pilgrims, monks, and travelers every year. Up on the hilltop, the monastery of Thrangu Tashi Yangtse only adds more depth to the spiritual feeling. It’s surrounded by quiet pine forests and panoramic Himalayan views, so Namobuddha gives a truly calm, soul-stirring experience for everyone.
